I think Jobs introduced exclusivity to Wozniak's gifting motivations, because markets perversely incentivize scarcity. Jobs wanted to charge money for something that had been free and voluntarily gifted by Wozniak to the public domain. Jobs would have convinced Wales to privatize wikipedia; aren't we all a lot better off that wikipedia is free and doesn't try to create an artificial scarcity of access to its articles? I imagine an alternate universe where Nixon passed basic income and Woz kept giving things away and Jobs found something else to do, like sit at home getting stoned all day, rather than sell artificial scarcity for maximum profit.
